Verrillon manufactures fibers that are routinely used in industrial applications. While these fibers may be used in a variety of different applications (e.g. fiber based instrumentation such as Spectrophotometers, Industrial Power Control Systems, Medical Applications), we focus on two widely prevailing uses of this group of fibers; Laser Power Delivery Fibers and Dual Clad Fibers for Fiber Laser applications.

Flexible laser power delivery from high power fiber coupled lasers is achieved via Large Core, Pure Silica Core Fibers. The use of Pure Silica Core Fibers with damage thresholds ~ 1 GW/cm2 allows the delivery of very high laser power for wavelengths in the range 600-1700µm, with relatively high brightness. A broad range of core diameters (~50-200µm), clad diameters (100-300µm) and Numerical Apertures (~0.15-0.22) are available. Power delivery fibers are typically available with a high temperature rated Polyimide coating; but can also be provided with Silicone and Acrylate (Medium or Low Temperature) coatings. Other available capabilities are up-buffered fiber with extruded coatings such as PFA, Hytrel and CEE-Flex. Finally, our flexible manufacturing capabilities allow us to provide a wide range of customized fiber coating and buffer combinations.

Fiber lasers for industrial and military applications continue to achieve record powers/power densities. The heart of the fiber laser is the gain medium.  This is typically a dual clad fiber with a ytterbium-doped core surrounded by a pure silica cladding followed by a second, low-index cladding. Verrillon supplies dual clad fibers with Yb-doping concentrations that attain absorption levels as high as ~400dB/m at 915nm (core pumped) in a variety of core (~10-25µm) and clad (~125-250µm) dimensions. Using cutting edge proprietary manufacturing and processing techniques, state-of-the-art DCF performance is achieved. Slope efficiencies ~75% are routinely achieved for 20/220 Dual Clad Fibers pumped at 915nm. Our suite of large mode area fibers are also available with numerical aperture as low as ~0.08 in a Polarization Maintaining Configuration with bi-refringence > 1 x 10-4. These dual clad fibers are used in both CW and pulsed lasers with very narrow line-widths.
